F.A.Q.
Is Metanoia Academy of Independent Learners a school?
Nope! And we don't want to be! Metanoia is designed to give families a community of like-minded students to grow and learn with. We pair the best parts of more traditional education (collaborative learning, thought provoking discussion, help with high school transcripts and college admissions, etc.) with the freedom of homeschooling. Metanoia learners attend live classes online twice a week and then complete assignments and independent learning activities the rest of the time. The online format and flexible schedule allow for travel, independent studies, and arts and athletic activities. We offer optional field trips and celebrations throughout the year to allow families to meet up for some in-person fun. We'll
What about Math?
Great question! Though our mixed age classrooms and curriculum work GREAT for humanities studies, math is a more linear progression. Instead of group classes, Metanoia provides access for our students to high quality math curriculums that meet their current level and needs. In addition, we have an AWESOME math tutor available to work with students online when they need some extra help.
Are you accredited?
Nope! Since we aren't a school, there is really no accredidation process for us to follow. However, we are happy to provide references! We also want you to know that accredidation is really more about peace of mind in most cases. Colleges, trade schools, and the military are all increasingly used to handling homeschooled applicants and are happy to work with you based on transcript, work portfolio, and standardized test scores, all of which we are happy to help you out with!
Do you offer foreign language study?
We've found that foreign languages, like math, are more linear in their skill and knowledge progression. It makes learning as a multi-leveled group difficult. However, we've got some great reccomendations to share with our learners across all levels and we will help you figure out how to incorporate your foreign language onto your high school transcripts too!
What about arts and extra-curriculars?
One of the beautiful parts of homeschooling is the ability to pull arts and athletic opportunities from ANYWHERE, not just your school! We encourage our families to participate in their local community's offerings and can help you with shaping those into well-rounded "courses" for later grades as needed. We also love our Metanoia online community, though, and are happy to offer book clubs, rpg Adventure Guilds, and more as fun friday activities for our students.
